Maybe John should feel a bit strange about this, but all he feels is terribly smug and happy. Darcy hissed at the air once Llew decided to just vanish to find Arthur to ask, and then grabbed his hand and started running. While he scrambles to keep up with her, he still finds himself grinning like a dolt. How the fuck could he not? She giggled over her shoulder and told him that she doesn’t want to leave Arthur alone with the creep, but she missed him so much, so she refuses to be away from him again. Yepp, his girl! His girl missed him! He could holler, if he had the breath for it.

They’re approaching from the side of the front door, so they don’t have to pass by the living room window, thankfully. Arthur pauses for a moment and looks up at the house- it’s so narrow, now that he’s used to looking at castles and what not. And shabby. The dark paint of the door is dusty, or sooty, or probably both, and peeling in places. He realizes he’s not even sure what colour the walls are supposed to be- they’re a murky grey that fits in with the rest of the neighbourhood. The window of his attic room is a small square of glass up under the eaves.

Several hours of research in the library don’t lead to much in results, though. Most of the books about demons the library gives them are collections of folk tales or horror stories- and some notable old Church treatises about witchcraft in Latin. Given how they want to murder anyone who can do magic and the dubious signs they list of how to recognize a witch, Arthur’s not sure how much he should believe them when it comes to demons.

It’s just all too much. Seeing John so much in the adventure and not being close reminds her too much of what she can’t have. And yes, her mother called her silly for that. Last night after the pirate adventure, Darcy thought of partying some more with Arthur, but Gregory wasn’t anywhere she could find him and Arthur wasn’t in the library, so she thought they must be out and doing things you do with a best friend. Is that what she misses John as?
