This didn’t go as Quincy had intended it to. And he is not okay with that!

First Cobb vanishes for most of the day, and then he shows up for the most inept ‘checking in’ Quincy has ever seen. He doesn’t even really make it fully through the checking in about, yes, Quincy’s supposed father just died in front of his eyes, before he’s off on a tangent about his own terrible life and how he lost his father, too.

Crossing his arms, John gives Darcy a long look as she mumbles and isn’t sure what to say until she eeps out a ‘maybe?’. Okay, this needs drastic measures. John tells Arthur to hold his ears shut, then asks Darcy outright if she had a terrible urge to jump the guy. While she descends into furious blushing, John just rolls his eyes, (that kind of stuff he can deal with, holding dhampir urges against her would be as sensible as being jealous of Jack,) and taps Arthur’s shoulder to take his hands down again. “Definitely related.”

Good, could Arthur stop being an arse to his poor mother? Shit, Quincy didn’t know, and there he thought Harker was the worst part of her life… no, he himself is. She never made him feel unloved. His mother never let it slip that she must resent him. She never let it slip to Harker, either… He suspects Harker would have at the absolute very best kicked him out even earlier, but with how he was always talking about vampires… Quincy tenses, remembers the often, heroically retold story of how the men hacked Lucy’s head off and hammered a stake through her.

Darcy reports that there was nothing unusual out there that she could tell, but of course, she would have to get outside to take a proper sniff. While Mrs Harker raises an eyebrow at that, Quincy comes back down the stairs, duffel bag over one shoulder and his sister on his hand. She insists to tell her mother that she brought her school supplies, too, in case it takes longer. She doesn’t want to miss out on her math homework.

The footsteps make Arthur turn away from the window, and his thoughts, look to the door just in time to see the greenish cast Quincy’s face takes on before he flees- and really, Arthur doesn’t blame him. He shares a look with Darcy, and they head after Quincy in silent agreement. At least there, there’s something they can do. There isn’t really anything left here, except maybe finding out who did this, but there aren’t really any clues here. Arthur can smell no magic except his own healing spell, he realises belatedly as they head down the corridor. So… at least that wasn’t a way the stake got there.

Arthur jumps at her squeak, first thinks maybe the puppy bit her- but, wait, no, Darcy generally doesn’t notice if the puppies bite her, and if she does, she just giggles and taps them on the nose. He (gently) drops the puppy he was inspecting for parasites into the pen at her words. “His father? Mr Harker? Attacked? How? Where?” he asks, while hurrying to close up the pens and cages.

Quincy had a hard enough time to get out of bed as is, knightly dhampirs have a ridiculous amount of strength, apparently, even asleep, but he eventually did manage to replace himself with a small battalion of stuffed toys, after he finally had the idea of asking the house spirit for them because pillows didn’t do anything, and sneak out of bed. Only to be joined before he can even  find the kitchen by that cat that apparently really is Cobb. It talks, and that is just ludicrous, no, he won’t have it.

Arthur can’t help but give Quincy a sideways look- can it really be coincidence? Darcy’s missing memories, the maybe-vampire attack… And now here’s a minstrel dhampir?

But… but Quincy really doesn’t seem to know anything about being a dhampir. And his eye colour changed. It could be some kind of spell, hiding that before, but if it’s a ruse, it’s a very elaborate one.

Now she’s just being precious. With a chuckle, Quincy puts a kiss on top of her hair and gets the most adorable flustered squeal back for it. Perfect, there’s his opening. “Not just me who liked that kiss earlier, hm?” One more squeal but also a tiny nod. “I don’t understand most any of this dhampir stuff yet, but I will just have to assume that I’m just too tasty to resist.” Hm, to go naughty or not, but if her emotions are as weirdly tinged towards horny as his, then maybe this is a dhampir thing, so let’s try that. “Although, Cycy, I’d appreciate it if you’d restrain yourself to the sucking me dry I’m more accustomed to. One mouthful at a time, please.”

After waiting until Quincy is coming to enough to sit up groggily (and therefore probably be safe,) John gets out of the room. He is not having a discussion about what just happened with the molly. He can deal with him when he’s a misbehaving puppy of a drac, he does not want to talk to the guy. His skin is still tingling uncomfortably at the thought of where Quincy touched him. So instead, he gets into the study and tells Arthur that he’s up for baby dhampir duty.
